About Me

I decided to join the US Military and then found myself fortunate to return home. I first began to care about my data being online when I received a disturbing email about a data breach with the email provider I had been using for years. I used them for banking, doctors appointments, my job, everything! Shortly after I received two more emails... One from a large credit monitoring agency and another from a government agency saying my information and account had been compromised.

This began a journey to research what my email, web browser, operating system, home WiFi, internet provider, and phone really collected or promised not to. I also began to actually read their privacy and data collection and usage terms. Honestly what most providers collected and gave to unnamed third parties scared me! I learned many privacy invading settings are not only turned on by default, and many settings are hidden in various locations to make it more difficult to opt-out or depending on the service no actual way to opt out at all....

I began to study, research, and test out alternatives for  my web browsers, email, computers, phone, routers, and more and found an amazing community. They exist to help people and not to try and hide criminal activity. But, simply believed like me that your data is yours and you should not have to opt out and adjust 30+ settings to stop it from being sold or even used against you for applying for work, grants and more.
